Recently, we chatted with Sam Gelband about life in general and his upcoming visit to Oklahoma City specifically.  Here's a snippet of our conversation -- join us on Saturday night!  Holler at [email protected] or 205-616-5009 for a reservation or more information!

Ready To Be in Oklahoma City:  Mr. Sam Gelband

Seattle native and New Orleans resident Sam Gelband is excited to spend some time in Oklahoma City.  Part of his enthusiasm stems from his appreciation of and love for Sam Anderson’s book Boom Town, a portrait and deep dive into Oklahoma City, its personalities and history, published in 2018.
“I love that book,” Gelband says.  “I have a fondness for OKC from a distance.  It seems like such a try-hard place.  That there’s this willingness to change and turn into something new and be different.  It seems like it has an opportunistic identity where, if something comes along that sounds cool, people are like, let’s do it.  And that’s really interesting to me.  Because cultures in cities are normally pretty entrenched.  At least that book makes it sound pretty flexible, which I think is really cool.”
What else is really cool is Gelband and the buoyant music he creates.  A talented musician who plays trumpet, guitar, piano, drums, and bass (the same instruments Lisa Simpson’s exchange student crush in The Simpsons Movie plays, Sam notes), Gelband has released two records as Mr. Sam and the People People, People People People People and Again! Again!.  Currently, he’s mastering his third record.  He hopes to release it in 2026.  Meanwhile, Gelband will grace an Oklahoma City stage on September 13, performing an intimate house concert in a cozy living room.  For reservations or more information about Sam’s OKC house concert, contact [email protected] or 205-616-5009.
